It Was a Night of Heavy Hitters...
Bergamot Station, in Santa Monica, was the place to be this past Saturday night... Wow, what fun we had! On one end, at Sloan Projects, you had Exene Cervenka (yes, her!), from one of the most influential punk bands to come out of the late 70's, 'X,' signing copies of her book & featuring a show of her collages/journals from her days on the road. And at the other end, at William Turner Gallery, you had legendary L.A. artist Ed Moses, who had his first exhibit in 1949 and whose work belongs to the collections of MOMA, the Whitney, LACMA, MOCA and plenty of other prestigious institutions. One wonderful observation was watching how each artist's audience was respectfully aware of the greatness of the other artist and though they come from different worlds, on this evening they were sharing the same magical atmosphere. A few of the other galleries had opening exhibits that night also and others stayed open to join in the camaraderie of the night. Everyone was gallery hopping and the cross section of people who showed up to honor both Exene, Ed and the other artists, these incredible artists, was a treat and we felt honored to be a part of that night. It was most memorable. Thank you to the Gaylord's, Hannah, for giving us the heads up on this one!
You can always look up to see what events will be in the future at Bergamot, by going to their website at bergamotstation.com . It is still a good location to get a taste of what is going on in the art world.
