World-8 Continues to Conquer...

Our Gaylord resident, Edgar and his World-8 squad will be hosting the game room in the theater lobby at the Ahrya Fine Arts by Laemmle, in March, during the screenings of the films of Mamoru Hosoda. The theater is located on Wilshire, just west of LaCienega, so stop on by and let the fun begin...World-8 continues it's domination!

Bueller is 30!?!...

Are you headed to Chicago in May, by any chance? Well... you should be! Our Gaylord 'resident comedian' Carl is hosting and has put together the fabulous, fun 'FERRIS FEST!' Celebrating the 30th anniversary of this now classic film, 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off.' The event will take place starting on Friday, May 20th through Sunday, May 22nd, with a special screening of the movie, hosted by film critic, Richard Roeper and several of the film's actors appearing for a Q&A. There will also be a tour through some of the film's locations in Lake Forest and Chicago (and a parade!?!). For more info, go to their website at ferrisfest.com and to book tickets for this fun event!

Funny... when I did my time at Betsey Johnson, oh so many years ago, one of the employees (and friend) used to call me "Bueller' in reference to this film.

Yo Joey, How You Doin'...

You look to be doing well! Back in September 2013, the film 'Tio Papi,' the brainchild of our Gaylord resident, Joey (pictured right), made it's New York debut after a successful run on the film festival circuit and eventually found a home on HBO. Now, Joey has teamed up with Steven Van Zandt (YES, that Steven of 'E Street Band' and 'The Sopranos' fame & pictured center above) to turn this movie into a television series. The story is based on Ray Negron's life (pictured left), who was taken in by New York Yankees boss, the outspoken & colorful George Steinbrenner and put to work within the organization and who suddenly had to take in his 6 nieces & nephews after his sister was killed in an automobile accident.

For those Gaylord residents who keep homes in NYC also,  'Tio Papi' has been receiving press coverage in the New York Daily News and local station PIX11, of late. Check it out...

Freshening Up...

Our sweet Cafe Mermaid (located street level, with outdoor seating) has been putting on a fresh face lately and adding more fresh ingredients to their tasty offerings. They have also extended their hours during the week to 7pm. If you have not stopped by in a while, pay a visit and give them a try, as many Gaylord residents and neighbors get their morning coffee & breakfast fix with them.

Someone Left the Cake Out in the Rain...

Before MacArthur Park was named after General Douglas MacArthur, it was known as Westlake Park and what a beauty it was! The city of Los Angeles has been working on restoring this green space, over the last few years, after having been neglected for so long. If you take Wilshire Boulevard to downtown LA you will drive right through it. It would be nice to have that boathouse back!

Thank you Craig for the postcard image.
