Another Holiday, Another Year...

These shots were taken during the Easter Day Parade celebration back in 1941, held in front of the Gaylord.

C'mon folks, today! It's time to start dressing up again. Where are your hats?!

For those of you that missed out on the Deal...

This photo was taken right before the Gaylord opened in 1924. The front inner doors were not yet installed. I had the good fortune of receiving these beautiful photos, shot at dusk, of the new RFK Community Schools and Inspiration Park from Sibylle Allgaier. Sibylle shot these for Hensel Phelps Construction Co, which built the new school. To view more of Sibylle's work from around L.A., visit her website at www.heliphoto.net. Foodies Dine!

Are you looking for that right place to eat tonight or soon? Jonathan Gold's (2007 Pulitzer Prize winning food critic for the LA Weekly) 'A Movable Beast, LA Weekly's 99 Essential Restaurants' has just come out. Either pick up the current LA Weekly or go online to find this must have list. From the cheap to the extravagant. It lists places I have not been to in 15-20 years which remind me to go back and revisit them, to places I have been to recently and places I have been curious about. There are even a couple of K-town restaurants listed. People, Tenants, Go Forth and EAT!

RFK school campus Grand Opening...

This Saturday, Nov. 13th, beginning at 9:30 a.m. will be the official grand opening ceremony for the RFK Inspiration Park and RFK Community Schools campus, open to the public. Many L.A. city dignitaries will be in attendance as well as RFK family members. They are expecting a large crowd, so traffic & parking congestion may occur. As you might notice today, the workers are busy installing the tent on the great lawn of the school campus for the ceremony. If you are in the neighborhood, you may want to stop in on this event and get a glimpse of the new campus grounds.

9:30 a.m. - Dedication of the Paul Schrade Library
10:30 a.m. - General Program
11:30 a.m. - Reception

LA Times... Dreamy Baritone...

Another rave review is in for Luca Ellis and his show 'Hoboken to Hollywood.' Yesterday, the LA Times Culture Monster (Daryl H. Miller) came out with a fantastic review, writing of Luca, "he turns his sexily hooded eyes to the audience and, as the band strikes up, emits a dreamy baritone." And ends the review with, "Applause signs flash to cue audience response, but they're entirely unneeded." Read the full review at http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/culturemonster/2010/11/theater-review-hoboken-to-hollywood-at-edgemar.

Congrats Luca on this continued success! Maybe we can hear this dreamy baritone more often through the lobby and halls of the Gaylord. I am sure the residents (as well as our Gaylord spirits) would appreciate the sounds.

Congrats Luca on the Great Review!

The Oct 29 - Nov 4 issue of the LA Weekly wrote up a glowing review for 'Hoboken to Hollywood' starring our very own Gaylord resident, Luca Ellis! The reviewer (Lovell Estell III) pens, " Luca Ellis is a knockout from start to finish as the Crooner. How good is he? If you close your eyes while he sings familiar tunes such as 'That's Life,' 'New York, New York' and 'Fly Me to the Moon,' you'd swear the Chairman himself had come back for one last encore.' The reviewer also gives props to the set design, costumes and the Musical Director and 12 member band.

I'll be going to catch this show before it closes and you should too! Performances are at the Edgemar Center for the Arts, 2437 Main St, Santa Monica 90405. Fridays & Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 3pm. Call for reservations at (310) 392-7327 or online at EdgemarCenter.org.
