Driving to Vegas...

Now I know many of you like to hit the road and take off to Las Vegas when you get the chance. On your way, be sure to stop off and visit Calico Ghost Town, in Yermo, off the 15, just east of Barstow. Calico is an old silver mining town that is now part of the San Bernardino County Regional Park system. It is a little tourist stop with the best part to me, being the Bottle House, built out of glass bottles. Unfortunately, no ghosts were sighted or felt throughout the town, while we were there. And while there in Yermo, be sure to feed yourself at Peggy Sue's 50's Diner, whose patrons span from Laurence Fishburne to Diane Keaton (Ms. Keaton being the one who led the Memorial Service, at the Gaylord, for the Ambassador Hotel when it was torn down almost 10 years ago now).

After grabbing a bite to eat at Peggy Sue's, instead of going to Vegas, we turned around and jumped on to the 58 and headed up into the Mojave, stopping in Boron, at Kramer Junction Antiques. It is one of those stops you just have to make to enjoy the roadside attractions. A garage full of classic cars, planes, a shop chock full of antiques and the most lovable, dusty & playful yellow labrador. And this road trip is just one of those adventures you have to make when you need to get out of town.
