Pictured above from the February 1926 'Gaylord Glimpses' is a view into what is today our Mail Room area. The door you see to the right of the chair was the original entrance to the restroom facility off our lobby (or as they listed the lobby back then, only 'the foyer' because our lobby was much grander!). That wall with the door is the east wall which houses many of our mailboxes currently (Originally, you would have picked up your mail from the Concierge Desk which was opposite of the passenger elevators).
Notice the ceiling light fixture, in the photo, is different from the one that hangs today. Both, current and past, are Oscar B. Bach designs, but the ones you view today were originally in other sections of our lobby (I'd like to know where this original one is!!!).
Also, where is that original torchiere wall fixture (another Oscar B. Bach design), in the corner, where our grand piano sits today? (Did you know there was a baby grand piano furnished in each #16 unit back in the day?!)
Another change, the console table and mirror, to the left. Again, the ones you currently view in the lobby were taken from another part of our glorious original lobby. These pieces, missing.
Thank goodness they did not remove our original Roman travertine marble walls we still get to enjoy today! And we all continue with that 'Roaring 20's' spirit from the original years of the Gaylord.
