Hope everybody enjoyed this past holiday weekend and took some time out to reflect on the meaning of Memorial Day.
The new Mr. Cutten and myself, with friends, went and attended the Topanga Days Festival, in Topanga Canyon, on Sunday (just under an hours drive). The weather was beautiful and we enjoyed the bands & belly dancers that performed and the food & goods from all of the different vendors. This is a 3 day event, every year, which ends on Monday, Memorial Day, with a parade down the Boulevard and the final bands performing at the Community Center. This year, Fishbone (wow! they're still around!?!) closed the festival out.
The next festival to happen in Topanga will be the Reggae 'Pon the Mountian festival, on Saturday, June 30th. For more info on this event go to, reggaeponthemountain.com. Topanga IS a relaxing, good hang.
On Monday, the mister and I took a great drive up to the top of Mount Wilson. Mount Wilson is just about visible from everywhere in Los Angeles, rising 5,700 feet above sea level, in the San Gabriel mountains. The view of downtown L.A. looks quite insignificant from up there, especially with Catalina Island rising above the skyline from that vantage point. Mount Wilson is where you will find many of the local television & radio station signal towers and there is also an observatory. At the top, the Cosmic Cafe is open on the weekends, so you can grab a bite to eat and enjoy the views. Easy to get to from the Gaylord and only about an hours drive away. Take the 2 north and then travel east on the 210 for one exit, get off at Angeles Crest Highway, in La Canada Flintridge, and take the Angeles Crest Highway all the way up. Don't look over the edge of the road as you drive up, you may just get vertigo!
