We would like to extend best wishes and a happy, healthy, prosperous life to Aaron who will be leaving us after today. Aaron has worked the Front Desk for a year now and his quiet, mild manner will be missed. Thank you for the work you have done in keeping a watchful & concerned eye over the Gaylord.
Much success Aaron! And come back to visit all of your friends here at the Gaylord.

Ambassador Hotel...
One of the Gaylord residents passed this info on to me, 'After 68' is a feature length documentary about the rise and fall of our old neighbor, the Ambassador Hotel. Check out the website for more information on this film at http://www.after68.com/about.html.

some things never change...
Mail is collected twice a day (!) from our original 1924 mailbox located in the lobby. This is the same box that has hung from the wall when the Gaylord first opened its doors in 1924. Located just steps from the passenger elevators for your convenience. Also, the mail chute goes all the way up to the 14th floor so you can drop your mail off in the chute from your floor, while still in your bathrobe!
Just part of the charm of the Gaylord.

HMS Bounty, a good hang...
For those of you out there that are not a part of the Gaylord world, you must remember this... the famous HMS Bounty bar & restaurant is a part of the Gaylord community. From the likes of William Randolph Hearst, Winston Churchill and Jack Webb to current day and up and coming actors, rockers and musicians of every creed, they all come to this classic. Along with the old time regulars and suits who have been going to the Bounty for years that sit at the bar and the many residents of the Gaylord that wind up there at the end of the day, it is a inviting place to meet and greet and enjoy a good dinner with a good drink. A neighborhood place and a social gathering spot for those in the know. Come and enjoy the ambiance and the killer jukebox.
My picks for dinner are usually the Petite Filet Mignon, the Fish 'n Chips or the Salmon Special they often have. Come and unwind with friends and if you are not a part of the Gaylord community you may just start pondering a move into the historic Gaylord with its own entrance into the Bounty from our beautiful, stately lobby.
Check out the Bounty website at www.thehmsbounty.com. Food & Grog! Come! Enjoy!

Results from IMATS show...
Our very talented, Gaylord resident, Miranda, placed 2nd in her competition, against many entries at the recent International Make Up Artist Trade Show held June 26 & 27 at the Pasadena Convention Center. Miranda should be very proud of herself for such an accomplishment that will be the beginning of an amazing career ahead of her. Great job Miranda! Our hats are off to you!
In this pic you see Miranda working on her subject, the Queen of Hearts, from Alice in Wonderland, during the competition.

4th of July Party a Success!
The 4th of July Potluck Picnic, organized by the tenants, was a fantastic success! The camaraderie that took place between Gaylord residents that had just moved in a few days before (even a month or two before) and those that have been established here was a pleasure to witness. A good time seemed to be had by all (young and old). Even those who had moved away came back to join in on the fun! This was a grand celebration of the true Gaylord community spirit.
Many thanks go out to Martha, Bruce, Lauren, John and Jay for all their work in organizing and working this 4th of July celebration. And, to all who pitched in with food, equipment, donations, clean up and participated in whatever way (even by attending)... a great, big...
THANK YOU!

walking...
This past Saturday, early evening, I was still feeling full from a hearty breakfast and a later lunch. Energy was waning and I felt like I could not move. I made myself drive (5 minutes) over to Silverlake Reservoir to walk a lap around the reservoir. Now with my long legs, at a leisurely pace, I was able to do one lap around the reservoir in 45 minutes. Everyone should know what a great place this is to get out to and walk. Great scenery, beautiful homes, friendly people and to watch the dogs in the community dog park there is a joy. As I walked this early evening, the temperature was just right and I spotted a coyote all curled up and sleeping peacefully at the north end of the reservoir.
For those of you that like to take a pounding on your knees by jogging/running, Silverlake Reservoir is an ideal location because it is a dirt trail that completely wraps the reservoir for you to jog on.
After my lap, I was once again energized, had a light dinner and was up till 1 a.m. Do not become sedentary. Get out there and walk folks. From our own neighborhood, go east and walk yourself down Wilshire Blvd to MacArthur Park and back up 6th Street. Or, if that is too far, go as far as Lafayette Park and turn around. You can go west on Wilshire Blvd, to Western, and stop along the way at Wilshire Colonnade to sit by their water pool & fountain. There is great architecture to admire and people are always out and about in both directions.

Baseball & Soccer...
For those of you living on the Wilshire Blvd side of the Gaylord you will notice that this past week the astro turf was laid down for the new school soccer field and today they were laying down the sod for the baseball diamond. This project really seems to be coming to an end finally.
Big Book of Small, Cool Spaces
Check out this new book for inspiration on decorating/designing/doing your apartments put together by Maxwell Gillingham-Ryan. Inside you will find unit # 602 in the Gaylord! This apartment is the former residence of our greatly missed easy, breezy attitudes Michelle & Tracy. They knew how to put it together!
