Street Speak...
On a recent visit to Pasadena, I had to stop and take a photo of this city utility box on the sidewalk, along Colorado Blvd. It reads, 'If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter.' Attributed to George Washington. Some street art/street speak has that way of making you stop and think. Thank you George Washington! and to whoever placed this in a public place to remind us all.

July 1926...
Shown here is the July 1926 issue of 'Gaylord Glimpses.' Recently and thankfully it was returned to our archives after having been missing for years.
Of note, on page 6, is a photo of Elaine Hammerstein in her wedding gown. Elaine had been living here at the Gaylord, for a couple of years, with her mother, while pursuing her acting career. Elaine is the cousin of two time Academy Award winner for his musical compositions, Oscar Hammerstein II. Elaine starred in 44 films and appeared in 1925's 'Parisian Nights' with Boris Karloff. Her last films were made in 1926 and she retired that year upon marrying Los Angeles City Fire Commissioner, Walter Kays. They held their wedding buffet breakfast in the Gaylord's 'Fountain Room.' Tragically, their lives ended in a horrible auto accident, in 1948, on the Tijuana/Ensenada Highway, in Mexico. Elaine was 51 years, at the time of her death.
On the pages 12 & 13 spread, there is a photo of the Gaylord Gardens, which is where our lovely pool now sits. What a beautiful sight and view that was!!!

Gaylord's 90th A Success...
The Gaylord's 90th Anniversary Party was a hit! A good crowd showed up to celebrate the iconic Gaylord and it's history with the Los Angeles landscape. Annie, tending bar in the HMS Bounty, could not get a rest from serving the 'Prohibition Drink' specials being offered up during the festivities. And the entertainment, headlined by Luca and Jenny was most appropriate for the occasion and sensational. Pictured above is our very own cabaret chanteuse, Jenny Eloise Rieu, with her piano accompanist, before and during their entertainment presentation. If you missed this party, you missed a good one, as it was well attended by Gaylord residents, friends, family & neighbors.
