Bloomin' Poppies...
What a colorful, delightful weekend we had. We made our way out to the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve, near Lancaster. This is part of the California State Park system and takes just over an hour to get to. The ranger stated the poppies may stay blooming for another 2 weeks, so if you want to catch them, get going quick. The best part I thought, in the bottom photo, if you look way back at the center mountains on the horizon, you can just barely see the snow-caps. Only in So Cal! Have fun.

Fabulous Derby...
There's been a run on great Brown Derby photos lately and these are the best yet. The top photo shows the Derby under construction when it was moved to our block from the opposite corner in 1936. The above photo was taken in 1957 and what a gorgeous night scene it is with the apartment lights on in the Gaylord standing directly behind and the steeple to the Immanuel Presbyterian Church lit up, on the right side (It oughta be in pictures I tell ya!) .
Now folks, when applying for an apartment here at the Gaylord, our approval criteria requires no prior evictions or violations of rental agreements, no judgements or negative remarks on your credit report. We request you have verifiable employment & income (3 times the rent minimum) and current residency.
With that being said, coming AVAILABLE for mid-April move-in;
***RENTED***- One Bedroom, 8th floor, 720 sq ft, north facing with incredible views of the 'HOLLYWOOD' sign & Griffith Observatory, $1800/month.***RENTED***

Southside...
...and for those Gaylord tenants who live on the south side of our building, just contemplate having the views of the beautiful Ambassador Hotel grounds, pictured below, when it stood directly across the boulevard from us. Now, having since been replaced by the RFK Community Schools Campus and RFK Inspiration Park.

Reason to Cry...
... for what was and is no longer. For those of you Gaylord residents living on the west side of the building, imagine if you could still look out from your windows and view the beautiful Chapman Park Hotel & Bungalows (pictured below). The Chapman was there from 1925 until the 1960's when it was demolished to make way for the Equitable Building, which opened in 1969 and today hovers high over us on the next block.
The hotel & bungalows were built by the late Samuel James Chapman. Samuel was the brother of Charles Clarke Chapman of Chapman University, in Orange, CA. The Chapmans were an influential family in southern California history, who acquired much of their wealth through owning citrus ranches throughout the region.
In 1932, during the Olympics that took place in Los Angeles, The Chapman Park Hotel & Bungalows housed the female athletes. The Chapman also had its' own chapel with a mural fresco inside by the famed Mexican artist Alfredo Ramos Martinez, which was sadly whitewashed over at a later date and then permanently lost to demolition.
We grieve for these architectural gems that have been lost in the name of Los Angeles progress, but hopefully the city has now learned its' lesson and will hold on to those still left for the future to appreciate.
