I'll Get You, My Pretty...


This morning, was just another one of those mornings in the Gaylord lobby where you never know who you'll run into. This was some absolute scary, creepy *#@". How many nightmares did you have, as a young child, after seeing the flying monkeys in "The Wizard of Oz" for the first time!?!

This is the costume worn by the lead winged monkey, Nikko, played by Pat Walshe, in 1938.
Oh, the G-lo. Such a unique place.

The illustration of the gates on this cover of our "Gaylord Glimpses" monthly magazine, from September 1926, are of the actual gates and grill work that once led into our magnificent Fountain Room. These cast iron beauties were designed by the renowned Oscar B. Bach, whose work is also found in the Chrysler Building, Rockefeller Center, the Empire State Building and is featured in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The Eyes Have It...


If you're a fan of classic movies, you know the face well. She could tell an entire story with just her eyes. In 1938, she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, opposite Bette Davis, in "Jezebel." Her respected film career only having begun in 1934. Prior to that, she was an accomplished stage actress and resided at the Gaylord in 1927. Fay's storied career continued on through 1965, appearing in many television shows. She was born in Los Angeles in 1893 and passed away here in 1968. A true Angeleno & one time Gaylord resident.
