YES! I am taking you there again for this "Shot of the Day," provided to me last week by our Aslan. Aslan looked out of his Gaylord living room window to find this magnificent beauty sitting there on the fire escape. This is one of our neighborhood juvenile red-tailed hawks. And how do we know this is juvenile? Because his tail is not yet red in color. What a creature to behold. Thank you Alsan for your swiftness in capturing this glorious moment.

A Fringe We Will Go...
Last year, our Mary had a successful run directing her piece during the Hollywood Fringe Fest. This year, one of our resident comics, Carl, will be performing his show, "Dozed & Confused," starting this Thursday evening at 8:30pm, at the Hudson Theatre Mainstage.

Back to the Wild...
If you look up towards the upper left corner, on the east side of the Archdiocese building, across from the Gaylord, you will see the nest of the red-tailed hawks. This past Wednesday when I looked up at sunset, I found 4 juvenile hawks (yes, 4!) sitting up in the nest (pictured) as one of the adults flew overhead. They must have been hungry and ready for a meal.
Unfortunately, early evening yesterday, one of the juvenile hawks looked to have been testing his flight skills for it was found in the east bound lane of Wilshire Blvd, directly in front of the Gaylord. A good samaritan and a L.A. County Sheriff's K-9 patrol officer stopped to try and help it, but I do not know what the outcome of their efforts were. We have our fingers crossed & let's hope the siblings fare better.
Wildlife in the city! It's real.

An Opening...
The above matchbook comes from the 1940's, when the original bar/ballroom, "The Gay Room" was located where our HMS Bounty bar/restaurant is located today, adjacent to the Gaylord lobby. During this era many prominent big bands played here, such as Duke Ellington and Desi Arnaz!
