4th of July Picnic!

Gaylord Residents, some of the Gaylord tenants are organizing a Pot Luck Picnic for the 4th of July. Sunday, July 4th from Noon to 5pm, patio & poolside. Music, dancing, sun & fun! Come out and mingle with your fellow residents and get in the spirit by wearing your best red, white & blue!

New Lawn...

I see that the sod was laid down for the new lawn over at the school construction site across the boulevard, yesterday. The piles of dirt that once stood for the last 3 1/2 years, during construction, have finally disappeared. This is supposed to be one great lawn (much like the Ambassador Hotel previously had). According to the school site plans, to the right of the lawn will be a baseball diamond. And to the left of the lawn will be a soccer field (this will be in keeping with the sports theme when a golf course was there for the Ambassador guests). We have all been patiently waiting (especially those of us living on the Wilshire Blvd side) for this project to end and in 2 1/2 months it should all be over. We can all rejoice over the loss of constant beeping trucks backing up! Enjoy the new views.

LA Opera...

Last Friday night at the Opera, cheap seats, center, in the nose bleed section for a riveting performance of 'Das Rheingold', the prelude to the 16 hour long spectacle of Richard Wagner's 'Der Ring Des Nibelungen' at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Although my friend and I were seated in the far reaches, we still had a great view of this amazing piece with wild costuming and brilliant staging by artist Achim Freyer. The prelude was 2 1/2 hours (no intermission) of thought provoking wonder. (The entire opera is presented over 4 days.)

I thank my friend for this treat and when you can, inquire about those cheap seats either at the LA Opera or LA Philharmonic when in season. You will be glad that you treat yourself to these institutions with their grand flair.

We have here in LA, geniuses, with Placido Domingo as General Director of the LA Opera and Gustavo Dudamel as Director of the LA Philharmonic. (and the recently crowned NBA champions, the Lakers.) It is a good time to be living in LA!

Studio color!

This is how one resident introduced color into their Single unit. One accent wall with more color coming from the bed linens and area rugs to add to the textures atop the beautiful concrete floors.

News on the park and school...

Information was unfortunatley limited today at the meeting regarding the school and park project across from our home here at the Gaylord. I did learn that the opening of the park has now been pushed back to late July or early August. And, all six schools (approximately 3,800 students) in the 3 structures will be up and operating by September 12th of this year. Two have already been in session for this current school year.

I voiced my concern about students entering and exiting the campus from Wilshire Blvd and was assured again that access will only be through Mariposa and Catalina Avenues and 8th Street. A fence line has been constructed along Wilshire Blvd and the new RFK Park.

Some of you were wondering about the community use of the track, basketball courts and other facilities, LAUSD has not yet worked out any logistics for this but are aware of the communities interest.

Security and maintenance issues for the new park are still being worked out between the LAUSD, LAPD, Dept of Recreation & Parks and the Wilshire Center BID patrol. All of these entities are looking for participation from those residents that live in the Gaylord, especially on the Wilshire Blvd side, to help keep an eye on the park.

As more information comes about from these impending projects I will pass it on to you.

One last note from today's meeting, our Senior Lead Officer from the LAPD, for our neighborhood, reported that crime in our district has been reduced by 50% over last year. Of all the districts in LA, we had the third largest drop in crime.

Meeting TODAY about the new park...

TODAY (June 17) at 12 Noon, there is a meeting at the Archdiocesan Catholic Center in regards to the new park (RFK Park) across the street from the Gaylord. The meeting will be held at 3424 Wilshire Blvd, entrance on Mariposa Ave, in the El Camino Real Conference Room on the 5th floor. The topic being discussed is a Neighborhood Watch for the park with the LAPD, LAUSD, Dept of Rec & Parks and the Wilshire Center BID. Please try to attend.
